Friends go on and on

The fun we’ve had in the past

Amusing memories that last

Quiet walks through the trees

Gentle moments of ease,

Boisterous shouting at teams

Midst laughter and griping it seems,

Sharing the birth of the babes

Born to the children we raised,

Sweet hugs accompanied by tears

Of caring throughout the years,

News of our losses and gains

Faith through the sunshine and rain,

Recently these times are few

But I cherish each day spent with you

You Were There

   I needed someone to share

        A vict’ry, a smile, to say “I care.”

To see my act as a conquered goal,

To understand the intent of my soul.

You were there.

        I needed someone to know

That anyone can sink as low

As someone else in this world we’re in

And love me still in spite of my sin.

You were there.

        I needed someone to see

The pain, the shame inside of me

As passing marks of an uphill climb

And know I’d change with the help of time.

You were there.

        I needed someone to live

And in the force of life to give

Me life and joy: a desire to try

And set my sights on the highest high.

You were there.

        I needed someone to hear

The pounding heart, the stifled tear

The things I felt but could not say

And yet, you heard them anyway

‘Cause you were there.
